Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship

Improve your research with principles of innovation

Are you an undergraduate student conducting research broadly relating to agriculture, food, and/or health? Do you have future goals to develop innovative ideas that address issues in the food system?

We have partnered with the UC Davis Undergraduate Research Center to offer four annual awards of $3,500 each. These awards support undergraduate students performing summer research with guidance by UC Davis faculty that catalyzes innovation across food, agriculture, and health.

Overview

The IIFH Undergraduate Research Fellowship is a full-time summer research program. Fellows participate in research and regular professional development workshops and training events.

Because of our focus on entrepreneurship, this fellowship strongly emphasizes the opportunities for student projects conducting critical experiments,studies, or prototyping that may make students competitive for the Little Bang poster competition and the Big Bang competition, PLASMA, or other innovation opportunities.

Details

Criteria

Selected fellows will receive $3500 in compensation for their commitment. The program seeks to identify 4 fellowship candidates who meet the criteria below. Fellows must:

  1. Be a continuing undergraduate student; preference will be given to 2nd or 3rd-year students (including incoming transfer students)
  2. Be participating in a faculty-mentored research position with relevance to agriculture, food, and health with a potential focus on products, processes, or technologies that advance food system transformation
  3. Be available to participate in 8-10 weeks of full-time research over summer (30-40h/week)
  4. Be available to present your research at the summer research symposium
  5. Be willing to engage with campus programming around entrepreneurship (2-3 events) during the spring quarter prior to starting

Compensation

The URC-IIFH Undergraduate Research Fellowship includes a summer stipend of $3,500 and some funds for travel and/or supplies, if needed.

IIFH Involvement
