How 'the crowd' is tackling a silent killer

Scientists around the globe are uniting to make aflatoxin a thing of the past. This collaborative effort, involving Mars, UC Davis, Thermo Fisher Scientific, and others, leverages crowdsourcing to combat this potent carcinogen affecting food globally. Through the Foldit platform, this initiative, leverages gamers’ protein-folding skills to accelerate the development of effective enzymes to degrade aflatoxin. The project aims to provide free, patent-free results to improve food safety, particularly in poorer regions where aflatoxin contamination is a severe issue.
