Google.org recently announced the 12 recipients of its AI for Science fund, a global initiative supporting organizations that use artificial intelligence to accelerate breakthrough scientific research across disciplines including health, agriculture, biodiversity, and sustainability. Among the awardees is the Periodic Table of Food Initiative (PTFI), a global effort building an AI-powered platform to map the “dark matter” of food—the thousands of molecular components that define nutritional quality and flavor—with the goal of enabling healthier diets through data-driven food design. PTFI’s inclusion underscores the growing role of AI in transforming food science and nutrition research and highlights its potential to drive more precise, science-based solutions for human and planetary wellbeing.
