UC Davis and BioInnovation Institute aim to prevent stunting in Africa through nutrition

IIFH and the BioInnovation Institute have launched the Amplified African Foods (AAF) project to combat childhood stunting in Africa by enhancing the nutritional value of culturally significant meals. Led by UC Davis professor and IIFH Faculty Director Justin Siegel, the initiative will develop a precision nutrition platform and enzyme-based technologies to improve protein digestibility. The project plans to establish a new company that delivers science-based, shelf-stable food products tailored to regional diets. By combining cutting-edge tools like foodomics and AI with local knowledge and supply chains, AAF aims to reduce malnutrition and support sustainable health across the continent.
